International:
The Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport serviced by Air Mauritius and many other airlines is the major gateway for travellers coming from abroad.
National:
Travelling around Mauritius could not be easier; a good system of roads provides easy access to all parts of the island. There is a trunk road, which runs from the airport in the south east, through Port Louis to Grand Bay in the north. Both taxis and self-drive cars are easily available.
Helicopter: You can take a helicopter ride around the island with Air Mauritius and can be booked at their main office at the Paille en Queue building in the centre of Port Louis near the Museum.
Cars: For car-hire, drivers have to be minimum 23 years old and in possession of a valid International Driver's license for a period of ne year at least. Driving is on the left.
Taxis: Taxis are numerous. They are recognizable by their white registration plates with black figures, whereas private cars have black number plates with white figures. Taxis are now metered.
Bus: Mauritius boasts an excellent bus service. You may thus reach almost every part of the island.
Bicycles / Motocycles: Mauritius is now offering great possibilities for mountain biking as some individuals fond of sports have created small companies, officially registered at the Tourism Authority of Mauritius, for the handling of excursions on bikes. These normally propose rides on tertiary tarred roads in remote regions. However the major change in the past years was in the opening of several huge private properties totalling thousands of hectares of wilderness, proposing mountain biking rides on a commercial basis.
Boat: There are several boat hire points round the coast of Mauritius whereby you can hire boats go round the island and explore the magnificent beaches and coastal lines of Mauritius as well as Ile Aux Cerfs and the different small islands surrounding Mauritius.
